Along a Petrified River
@ Oberlin Conservatory Exquisite Electrophonics 2021
Along a Petrified River is a wearable map of a paddling journey on the Oswegatchie River and Stillwater Reservoir in the Adirondacks. Items, frozen in resin, were collected from campsites along the way, and were chosen for their representations of these places of human/nature intersection at the moment of my visit. This piece exists in many formats: as a sculpture, an installation, and as performance, which reanimate the documented locations and my journey through stop motion animation, sound, and wearability. By wearing these objects on my body, I am claiming the personal, subjective nature of this mapping, an illustration of space experienced through my own eyes and my own hands.
